Valeria del Campo – Departamento de Física USM \nLa energía solar fotovoltaica tiene un altísimo potencial para responder a la alta demanda energética global al mismo tiempo que mitigar el cambio climático. Mónica Pacheco (USM)\, Evaluadora interna\nDr. Eric Suárez (USM) Evaluador interno\nDr. Rodrigo Soto (PUC)\, Evaluador externo \nAbstract: A key characteristic in topological superconductivity is the presence of a boundary state located at zero energy. This state receives the name of Majorana zero mode\, being a particle which is its own antiparticle. The detection of such a state has been very elusive\, since the existence of Andreev bound states can mimic the zero energy mode. In this work we focus in the study of onedimensional nanowires in its topological phase hosting Majorana modes at its ages and coupled to a quantum-ring. The quantum-ring with a crossed magnetic field provides an observable current. Unfortunately\, this signal is not suitable for detecting Majorana zero modes. Nevertheless\, Majorana modes oscillate when there is an overlapping between them and the manifesting zero energy crossings\, which are protected topologically. Hence\, persistent currents could be able to detect zero energy crossings by its discontinuity. With the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling we can shift the zero energy crossings in the parameter space\, these zero energy crossings may be detected with both persistent current and spin current\, where the presence of this last one is an indication of spin asymmetry\, a key ingredient in the existence of Majorana. Finally\, the quantum-ring between two topological superconductors is also considered. In this last case\, topological patterns appear in the two-dimensional parameter space\, formed by the magnetic flux and the superconducting phase difference. Such patterns can be also detected by dc Josephson currents as well as persistent currents. DESCRIPTION:Innovación Nanotecnológica para el desarrollo de soluciones sustentables\nDra. Carolina Parra \nDepartamento de Física – Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María \nLa nanotecnología provee de una potente ruta para reducir el impacto ambiental y mejorar los niveles de eficiencia y sustentabilidad de procesos y productos en diversos sectores industriales de relevancia a nivel regional\, tales como el minero\, el acuícola\, el de generación de energía o el naviero\, entre otros. La complejidad de estas problemáticas requiere de un enfoque sinérgico que sólo el trabajo interdisciplinario y la estrecha asociación con empresas pueden entregar. \nEn esta charla revisaremos primero nociones generales asociadas a la nanociencia y la nanotecnología. Choque fue estudiante de la Universidad de Concepción\, luego de sus estudios en esa entidad universitaria\, vivió y trabajó en los Países Bajos durante su doctorado; actualmente se encuentra trabajando en la Universidad de Atacama. \nTitle: The evolution of dwarf galaxies in clusters \nAbstract: Galaxy clusters are the largest gravitationally bound structures in the Universe\, with a big spread in their formation state and dynamical properties. In these high-density environments\, galaxies evolve under various physical processes that impact their evolution\, for example\, their distribution\, morphology and stellar content\, etc. A type of galaxy highly susceptible to environmental effects are dwarf galaxies\, in my research we focus on these less massive galaxies in the more massive structures\, where the environmental effect is stronger. On the other hand\, substructure disruption in galaxy clusters likely plays an important role in shaping their population\, given that a significant fraction of today’s galaxy clusters have spent time in a previous host system. We have investigated these concepts by addressing when and why  the disruption of groups happens. I will demonstrate that for low reheating temperatures\, bosonic or fermionic reheating from monomial potentials can lead to adifferent evolution in the DM production and hence to distinct predictions for the parent particle lifetime and mass\, constrained bylong-lived particle (LLP) searches. I will demonstrate that the extent to which the standard DM freeze-in production can be modified cruciallydepends on the underlying inflationary model. Despite the very precise available data\, the\norigin of these parameters remains obscure. Such a flavor puzzle is one of the most profound and fascinating problems of fundamental interactions. \nThe hope of deriving these parameters from a fundamental principle has led scientists to explore a great variety of symmetries patterns. In this talk\, I will show how the role of flavor symmetry can be played by modular invariance\, ubiquitous in string theory and condensed matter systems. Modular invariance can be explored in a consistent bottom-up\napproach\, which here will be reviewed and applied to neutrino masses and mixing angles.   Despite the freedom inherent in model building\, a set of universal predictions free from ambiguities can be formulated when the theory approaches a critical point\, much as in the case of phase transitions. The topological nature of these couplings allows them to be matched from the UV to the IR\, and the ratio of the anomaly with photons and gluons for any axion is fixed by unification. I will show that this implies that there is a single axion— the QCD axion— with an anomalous coupling to photons. Other light axion-like particles can couple to photons by mixing through the QCD axion portal\, and necessarily lie to the right of the QCD line prediction in the mass-coupling plane. I will show how in this case having a multiple majoron model can enhance the signal. I will also discuss how a low scale Majorana mass generation can help addressing different cosmological anomalies/tensions.
