DESCRIPTION:Speaker:   Dr. Joao Penedo (Instituto Superior Técnico\, Portugal) \n  \nTitle:   Hierarchies from (residual) modular symmetries and modulus stabilisation \nAbstract: \nModular invariance is a predictive generalisation of the traditional flavour symmetry approach to the puzzle of fermion masses and mixing. Inthe first part of this talk\, I will report on a mechanism to generate hierarchical fermion mass matrices in modular-invariant models offlavour\, based on the proximity of the value of the modulus to a point of residual symmetry (no flavons are required). In the second part of the talk\, I will discuss the problem of modulus stabilisation. By analysing simple UV-motivated CP-invariant potentials for the modulus\, a class of potentials is found which has non-fine-tuned CP-breaking minima in the vicinity of the cusp (point of Z3 residual symmetry). Three new fermions are added to the Standard Model\, one of which mediates the atmospheric massgeneration a la seesaw\, while the others\, from a dark sector\, induce the solar scale at the one-loop level. The extended scalar and gauge sectors lead to rich TeV-scale phenomenology. DESCRIPTION:Estimados y estimadas: \nJunto con saludar y esperando que se encuentren bien\, me dirijo a Uds. con el fin de invitarles cordialmente a participar de una Feria de Carreras que se llevará a cabo en nuestra Universidad durante el día del Ensayo PAES. \nEsta actividad está programada el sábado 27 de mayo\, desde las 10:00 hasta las 12:30 horas\, en el Campus Casa Central\, en el Hall del Edificio C.  Este horario corresponde a la primera hora de salida del Ensayo de Competencia Matemáticas M1 y durante el break (entre ensayos). \nDado esto nos complacería contar con su participación a través de la presencia de un stand de su departamento. \nDispondremos del espacio en el Hall del Edificio C\, por lo que nos gustaría saber si necesitarán manteles y electricidad en su stand\, especialmente si tienen previsto realizar experiencias o demostraciones interactivas. DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Professor Jorge Romao (Instituto Superior Técnico\, Portugal) \nTitle: New results in Multi-Higgs Models \nAbstract: \nWe review some new results in symmetry constrained 3 Higgs Doublet Models (3HDM). For the problem of Bounded From Below (BFB) we propose a simple sufficient (although not necessary) condition for the potential to be BFB. In the case U(1)xU(1) we compare this condition with the necessary and sufficient conditions that are known. We also review and compare the cases of Z2xZ2 and Z3\, where no such conditions are known.  In the second part we consider 3HDM with an A4 symmetric potential. We discuss the possible vacua when the symmetry is exact and when we consider soft symmetry breaking. SUMMARY:Charla Dr. Andreas Hoecker\, ATLAS CERN
DESCRIPTION:Expositor: Andreas Hoecker / Spokesperson ATLAS 2021-2025 \n\n\n\nTitle: Smashing discoveries: Physics at the high-energy frontier with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. \n\n\n  \n\n\nAbstract: The talk introduces particle and collider physics at the high-energy frontier. It presents the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider\, the largest and most complex physics experiment ever built. The principle discoveries made and results obtained with ATLAS as well as the most important open questions in fundamental physics today are discussed. The talk also gives an outlook to future large-scale particle physics experiments. \n\n\n  \n\n\nBio: Andreas Hoecker’s research in elementary particle physics covers collider physics experiments at CERN and Stanford\, USA. He studied physics at Bonn\, Germany and earned his PhD at Orsay\, France in the 1990s. During that time he studied the properties of the tau-lepton\, the heavy cousin of electron\, and strong interactions with the ALEPH and OPAL experiments at CERN’s Large Electron-Positron Collider. In 1998 he became Scientist at the French CNRS organisation and joined the BABAR experiment at Stanford’s National Accelerator Lab (SLAC)\, where he was responsible for the particle identification device and performed studies of matter-antimatter symmetry violation. Since 2005\, he is Research Physicist at CERN and member of the ATLAS experiment. He contributed to the fast online selection\, commissioning\, and searches for the Higgs boson and Supersymmetry. He served as ATLAS Physics Coordinator in 2014 and 2015\, deputy Spokesperson between 2017 and 2021\, and was elected ATLAS Spokesperson for the period early 2021 to 2023. Throughout his career\, Andreas Hoecker has also worked on particle phenomenology and the development of statistical tools.
